- Illegal drug use is on the increase and drugs in Europe are cheaper and more accessible than ever before;
- 92% of men and 84% of women use alcohol to some degree;
- 40% of the workforce under the age of 40 has experimented with illicit drugs;
- 25% of those who seek help for drug problems are in employment;
- 1 in 25 people are dependent on alcohol, the majority of these are employed;
- It is estimated that alcohol contributes to 20-25% of workplace accidents;
- Alcohol related absence has been estimated to cost the British industry £2 billion each year, whilst the cost to industry due to drugs use is estimated as £800 million each year;
- The rate of job loss amongst people with drug or alcohol problems can be up to 47% higher than their counterparts who do not have these problems.
